TransCape was partly initiated by the owners of Mdumbi Backpackers. This marriage between a tourism product and developmental organisation soon proved to be beneficial to both establishments in many ways. People visiting Mdumbi became interested in the development work we were doing. Some people would either go home and fundraise or come back later to volunteer for TransCape. Currently we have several groups, international and South African, that visits Mdumbi on a yearly basis and at the same time volunteer for TransCape and usually bring us some very needed funds that they gathered through the year.
Volunteer Accomodations
TransCape has 2 volunteer accomodations in Tshani Village. Vukani Backpackers, owned and operated by Tata Spargs and his family. This accomodation is for shorter term volunteers, with a self catering kitchen and no electricity. About 500m up the road from Mdumbi Backpackers and Transcape's office, this homestead has an amazing view of the Mdumbi river and beach.
